Irridescent turgite is a mixture of two minerals, hematite and goethite, and occurs due to an alteration of the goethite. IT apparently occurs only under specific environmental conditions. Turgite is not considered a mineral unto intself because it is a mixture of two minerals. This specimen was found in Santa Eullalia, Chihuahua, Mexico in the 1970's.
